So, regarding Whoopi's comments: I interpreted it as a case where she didn't initially believe it was about race because she viewed Hitler's actions as a war against the Jewish religion. So she probably felt the Holocaust was more about religion than race. I don't find that to be a malicious sentiment from her...just one that she didn't fully think through (her cohosts even had to point out for her how Hitler wanted to create a "master race" against anyone who wasn't White and Aryan).

While I understand what you're saying about lighter-skinned people appearing "White" to darker-skinned Black people, that doesn't change the spectrum of skin color that does exist on the global stage. So to say that anyone who isn't Black is automatically "White" by default is to deny/erase their lived experience, as a Latino person or a Middle Eastern person or an Indigenous person.
