Amidst a political and media landscape that often feels debilitating, one of my favorite subtle joys in life has returned. Survivor, CBS’s megahit reality franchise, will be debuting its forty-ninth season this week. As the ninth edition in the show’s “new era” following the COVID-19 pandemic, it will continue airing ninety-minute episodes (alongside of The Amazing Race 38, which will have the twist of at least one Big Brother veteran on each racing team). Survivor’s premiere date will be Wednesday, September 24 beginning at 8:00 P.M. Eastern/Pacific.

For that reason, this will be the ninth consecutive season where I will preview and recap the season, respectively, before its premiere and after its finale. These are my past eight pairs of writeups:

Survivor: Elemental Monsters (Season 41) | PREVIEW & RECAP

Survivor: Jungle Wars (Season 42) | PREVIEW & RECAP

Survivor: Savage Life (Season 43) | PREVIEW & RECAP
