Tarana Burke on using privilege:

"That's really what it's for. The reason why we run into problems is because people take privilege and power, and they abuse it. It's the misuse of privilege, right? -- the abuse of privilege that causes problems.

There's always going to be somebody inherently that has more privilege than another person, in one way or another. What matters is what you do with it. So, people know me [by reputation] and I have a lot of visibility -- it's allowed me to open doors for people who don't have the same kind of visibility. When #MeToo first went viral, one of the first things we did with the money we got in was give it to other organizations that were just like me [in their goals], on the ground, organizing in communities with very little resources. That's how you use your privilege for good.

I'm not interested in White people reading up on a whole bunch of books and listening to podcasts and following a bunch of influencers on social media. If you aren't actively figuring out how to use your privilege to make the lives of the people who you are trying to be antiracist-or-whatever for better, that's what it's there for. It's not just to make your life better; it's to make other people's lives better."
