I think there's also a difference between direct economic deposits for the citizenry as a whole (e.g. stimulus checks) versus funding for entire programs which would be run by experts (in the relevant field) who can oversee the programs to make sure they actually help constituents in the way those programs are designed to.

I agree with you about framing the issues of guns and abortion. This is why I am very nervous about recent rumblings from Democrats that they might promote the more leftist iterations of gun control such as taxing ammunition or requiring liability insurance. Abortion can be looked at, similarly -- nobody wants to see the number of abortions INCREASED...but defining life as beginning at conception undermines a pregnant woman's health.
