The other problem is the question of: WHO, from a marginalized community (or even from a privileged community) gets to be the arbiter over whether something is offensive or not?

I wrote about a period of time when, in the on-campus LGBT+ student support group I attended, I felt that the self-deprecating jokes by our straight co-facilitator were inappropriate:

But I was hesitant to speak up about it. Part of that was because I knew his intentions were probably mostly good...but another part of that was my fear that I'd be shut down by some members of my own community who could perceive me as being a "drama queen."
