The thing is: if he had just initially approached me in private and expressed his (hypothetical) attraction to me, I would have been extremely supportive of him and told him he could talk to / confide in me anytime and I wouldn't tell anyone.

Even while I was individually closeted (out of fear of my own safety and reputation), I was also openly supportive of the LGBT+ community (prior to coming out, myself).

He chose to go the route of being a sexist/racist punk, though.
