There are two really big factors contributing to this:

1.) Fetishization or enabling of what I refer to as "Dystopian Porn" (editorials written seemingly for no other reason than to tell us how "We're all doomed" and there's nothing we can do about it)

2.) Treating liars and deceivers as "gangsters," like it's suddenly a human virtue to strive for
