The only thing I'd add is that the dark money definitely comes flowing for downballot candidates, too (although, as Jim pointed out, not with the intensity of the money given to candidates closer to the top of the ballot) -- although it's spent by others "on their behalf" with no formal communications between them and those who fund the ads, which is what makes it dark money in the first place!
