Well, conscription (as it exists in most countries) is inherently ANTI-feministic. It's predicated on the assumption that most women are incapable of fighting in combat...whereas most men can "train themselves" to be combat-ready.
If we redefine "chivalry" as gender-inclusive, wouldn't that *BE* equality? (or, at least, a step toward it?)
Many of the people who'd applaud my actions (coming to the aid of the elderly woman with the cane) might say that it wouldn't have been "QUITE AS" necessary for me to have stepped in and helped an elderly man or a person of a younger age. This mindset assumes that chivalry should generally be monodirectional -- i.e., that I had a "duty" to help her because I'm male and she's female, and because I'm younger than her.
