Well, he's a physics & astronomy professor. But he is from the Traditionalist ("Silent") generation...so, assuming that JRD had any input into his character, I assume he was channeling the British iteration of norms installed in Traditionalists from when he himself was growing up...and he may have brought that dialogue to Arturo?
