Well I meant "bargaining down" in the respect that there's an idea being floated that really has no legs (e.g. mandatory liability insurance) -- so, for people in the middle who are more "low-info observers," it appears to them as though neither of the extremes would be 100% getting their way (when, in reality, the middle ground we've spoken of was the true goal, all along).

Out of curiosity: do you think Joe Biden's recent calls for expanded liability/lawsuits against gun manufacturers is a risky proposition for him to be endorsing?...or do you suspect he is aware that it's unlikely to ever pass or be enforced, and he's putting it out there in order to make it look as though his side would be "making concessions" during future negotiations (when it inevitably gets overruled by courts)? Because I really worry about the blowback ahead of the 2022 midterms -- especially if Biden is truly sincere that he thinks gun manufacturers should be able to be sued by victims/families of gun negligence, EVEN when the negligence was committed by a private gunowner.
