Well, if their reference to the person (whom they're pegging as an "asshole") is purely situational, I'd agree with you. If they are using the generic reference of "asshole" to make light of a serious character flaw in the person that's coming to light in a very pointed way, then that's akin to enabling the person's flawed worldview.
