Well, it's a trade off. Two gay dudes or two lesbian women are probably going to have an easier time communicating with one another than a man and a woman who are in a heterosexual romance.
What's NOT "easy" is constantly seeing/hearing a bulk of the media & pop culture narrative framed almost exclusively around an experience to which we're unable to relate.
And the procreation angle works both ways. Sure, same-sex couples don't have to worry about getting each other pregnant...but so many of these couples also want to adopt, and are flat-out denied the opportunity to do so based on their lack of heterosexuality.
