Well, I've never been married. What I'm saying is that, if someday I'm fortunate enough to be married to a kind and caring man, I will be referring to him as my "husband." And I will be correcting anyone who attempts to define him as my "partner."

Obviously, if two unmarried people who are cohabitating together want to refer to one another as "partners," that isn't for me to judge. I'm not going to correct them. Same thing applies if it's a married couple (of either the same sex or the opposite sex) who refer to each other as "partners." The way in which they regard one another has no bearing on the relationship between me and my future spouse.

I'm not somebody who goes around routinely trying to "language-police" others. But I will speak up when I feel that someone's use of language diminishes me. But what two people in a relationship (married or unmarried) call one another -- when I'm an outsider to their relationship -- doesn't fall into that category.
