Well, regarding slavery reparations: I don't oppose the concept per se. I think there should be a federal commission to study in what ways reparations could be feasibly implemented. The problem is: cutting personal checks to every Black citizen descended from slaves is only going to exacerbate the problem. Doubly so, if the policy places the burden on all White citizens across the board to pay out those reparations (in that particular form; i.e., personal checks).

I would agree with Patrick in the respect that we all should help out and contribute to solving problems, even when we aren't directly the ones affected by the specific problem-in-question. Where I take issue is the blanket admission of guilt/blame/shame...whereas, the more rational position would be to reframe it as "How can we all be a part of the solution?"
