Well, that really depends on how you define the term "united."

I don't view "uniting" Americans as meaning that there's ever going to be 100% consensus on any issue. Rather, my vision of "unity" would be rejecting the thought-policing and media-manufactured "Here's-what-you-must-think" talking-points...in favor of honest and tough discussions. And then, the legislation that comes out of that shouldn't be "winner-take-all."

That framework isn't naive, at all. Difficult to achieve -- yes, definitely. But that's more a consequence of how badly things have devolved. I refuse to make it my operating principle that humanity is incapable of achieving better outcomes. I've interacted with too many people in my life who prove otherwise. The obstacle (and difficult battle) ahead of us is disempowering the loudest voices in the room. I'm under no delusion that it's going to be easy -- but if you give up prematurely under the self-fulfilling prophecy of "Never Gonna Happen"...then you are enabling that very toxicity, and, consequently, are culpable and complicit in it.
