I don't think anybody's suggesting that all masculinity across-the-board is toxic. Rather, attitudes and behaviors based on machismo or misogyny are the "toxic" varieties exhibited by men who'd claim to be "masculine" when they act that way. It could similarly be argued that there are alternate variations of masculinity that are "healthy" or "nutric."
