Well, you're right that it's intellectually-dishonest for any of Chapelle's critics to claim he's outright advocating violence against trans people. However, you don't necessarily have to be invoking threats or violence in order to marginalize someone else.

At what point did I ever say Chapelle should be "deplatformed." He has a platform, and that isn't going to change. But, by that same token, when public figures have such a visible platform, they can (and should) expect to be challenged by those who won't necessarily bow to their every word. That applies regardless of whether or not they try to wrap their bigotry in "humorous" packaging with a nice pretty bow on top.

So are you suggesting that most comedians don't really believe in (or subscribe to) the points they are making, during their comedy sets? That they're intentionally being performative, in an ironic and reverse-psychological way, as part of an effort to hold up a mirror to society's ridiculousness?
