Which is why I generally use either "white privilege" or "white supremacy" rather than "whiteness," since it's more straightforward and less confusing (particularly when trying to illustrate these problems to those who don't understand systemic power imbalances). Of course, then there need to be follow-up discussions on how/why something specific is systemically-racist (which, I'd think we'd all agree, is where the necessity of accurate historical transparency becomes so vital)...but that's the starting-point, and, without the starting-point, we get nowhere.
"Caricature" is a generous descriptor of them, in my view. At a certain point, they need to decide what exactly they want. If it's self-deprecating lip service from members of any relevant "majority" group, that's a battle they're simply never going to win (at least, not on a grand scale). If it's better education FOLLOWED BY action, then I'm onboard -- but I focus on explaining the policies themselves rather than trying to indoctrinate people into believing the fallacious philosophies, because, ultimately, the comprehension of policy by lay people is what's going to sway the key power players. I'd assume our common goal is just for it to happen sooner, rather than later?
