Years ago, a fellow gay male friend of mine joked to me, "You know those Holy Rollers who keep saying how we [gay people] should just be exiled to our own island away from everyone else? I say, 'Hell, yeah!' -- what a grand ole time of fun we'd all have together!"

Obviously, he wasn't being literal. He was making the point of the power that LGBT safe spaces (including gay male spaces) have, in terms of equipping us to find ways in which we can make the greater world a better place.
