Educating students about systemic racism must be well-crafted, informative, and constructive in order for the impact to land
For the past couple of years, perhaps no other political hot button has been more misunderstood than Critical Race Theory. When politicians jump into the debate to push their own agendas, students within our public education system are ultimately the ones who suffer.
Interestingly, in what has been announced as Phil McGraw’s final season on daytime TV, I’ve found Dr. Phil to be an invigorating forum where difficult topics affecting our society can be explored. Already, I’ve reviewed two previous episodes in which Dr. Phil gave a platform to disparate voices regarding the taboos of #DefundThePolice and political tribalism.
On May 9, 2023, his program aired an episode about the controversies over CRT (Critical Race Theory) being taught in K-12 schools. Although I penned a February 2023 op-ed piece on what role I believe CRT should play in public education, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to watch and comment on the ideas shared during this episode of Dr. Phil.
