You seem confused about my actual objection.
I have no problem with atheists who civilly express your views, regarding how you simply have a LACK OF belief in the supernatural/divine within the universe.
The ones with whom I take issue are the atheists who mock and belittle anybody who practices a theistic religion, and try to use science as the mechanism to "prove" atheism while "disproving" all forms of theism.
This would be the archetype whom the original author was characterizing as "militant atheists." I refer to them as "gnostic atheists," as a way to distinguish them from people who subscribe to atheism in a non-adversarial way (aka "agnostic atheists").
I realize you don't care for labels, but, apparently, delineating such labels is the only way I can accurately communicate what I'm trying to say, here.
