You're right that the struggle between old and young has been eternal and cyclical. I don't doubt that Gen X received participation trophies before Gen Y and Gen Z each did.

The question still remains: Who insisted on creating those participation trophies, in the first place? Nine times out of ten, I betcha it wasn't the kiddies!
